Unfortunately, the days following that night were significantly LESS swoony, and Sadie now hates Erik. Erik and Sadie had a chance encounter, and they spent one super swoony day together – so swoony that Sadie acted out of character by spending the night with him. The story follows Sadie, a woman who is upset when she gets stuck in an elevator with the guy she spent one great night with a few weeks ago. Certainly not of the same caliber as Hazelwood’s full-length books, but this novella delivered on the charm. It felt like a “Hazelwood” romance (quirky, unique, and a little nerdy), and it satisfied my craving for a quick, easy read between books. Told in both flashbacks and present day, we get to the source of their misunderstanding and puzzle out exactly how the hero feels about his former one night stand. This has been the most successful one for me I loved the forced proximity of this couple being stuck in an elevator together. As someone who has LOVED both The Love Hypothesis and Love on the Brain, I was excited to check out Hazelwood’s series of novellas.

I liked the heroine Maria and the hero's brother, Lawrence. There were things I really liked about it and things I really disliked about it. My affections wavered throughout this book. It was an entertaining read for me, but not very memorable. She would have known it but known that Lawrence was her second choice, right? And I guess I was just never really convinced that she actually had always loved him. As it was, it was all just way too predictable.įinally, I think she should have known about her feelings for him for all those years and not have suddenly discovered that they were for him and not his brother. And if there was so much focus on the dang food, certainly it should have been tied in more to make the story a little more seductive. That leaves a world of sweets from which to contrive some very romantic moments, but there were none, save the bit of sweet on her mouth in one scene. And she was a pastry chef for goodness sakes. Consequently, it did not seem genuine.Īlso, throughout the story I would have preferred to see a little more affection between Maria and Phillip. It seemed incredulous and too impulsive for Phillip. There was just too much said in that public declaration. However, I agree with many of the other reviewers that the ending left a lot to be desired. It was first hinted at when he revealed he was not undead like the rest of his teammates. However, it became more apparent that Mister Bloom was more important to the conception of Task Force Z than he appeared.
